This is the City Hall in Belfast.
Completed in 1906, for the then enormous (and well over budget) cost of £369,000, it has just undergone a two-year refurbishment costing £11 million. It was officially reopened on 12th October this year by Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State.
The wheel in the background is situated in the grounds to the east of the building. Constructed in late 2007, it was only supposed to remain for a limited time, but it's still there.
The stalls in front of the building are a Continental style Christmas Market. This is based on the markets which are found in many central European cities at this time of year.
When I walked around the market stalls, it definitely wasn't as busy as last year. Only a few people were on the wheel.
A sign of the recessionary times? Or, perhaps, just a sign that both attractions have passed their sell-by date?

It's certainly is lovely and I love a look around there. I'm hoping the lack is because of the recession, though. It would be a shame for something so nice to close.
Oh, I like this! Have you gone in the wheel? I think it would be quite a thrill, but I do like my feet planted firmly on the ground.
Yes Cheryl, I went on the wheel a couple of years ago. On a dark, wet and windy day when the view was a bit obscured.
I must admit I enjoyed it and would go again, but haven't got around to it.
