The Quays

The Dublin Quays run for approximately 1.5 miles along the north and south sides of the Liffey.
Viking invaders in the 800's and 900's were probably the first people to create quays along the Liffey. Many Viking artefacts have been found in the vicinity of Wood Quay.
The Quays became the centre of the shipping trade until, in the 1800's, the port gradually moved downriver as a result of the increasing size of the ships.


Above is part of Lower Ormond Quay on the north side of the river, while Wellington Quay, on the south side, is shown below.
